Six students from the Cebu Normal University (CNU) College of Tourism, Hotel, and Hospitality Management (CTHHM) emerged as regional winners in the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) Tourism Start-up Challenge 2025 Project Proposal Competition.

Their winning proposal, titled “Healthy Streets, Happy Tourists: Street Food Innovation and Incubation Hub,” aims to transform street food into a sustainable tourism asset through innovation, incubation, and education.

The project seeks to empower street food vendors by providing training on food safety and innovation, developing a mobile application that connects tourists with certified vendors, and organizing annual street food festivals to further promote local tourism.

The proponents behind the study are fourth-year students Bea Mae Enanoria and Kate Alexandria Velez, together with third-year students Jan Trisha Navarette, Aladin Dion Ibaoc, Acel Shane Despi, and Sandara Busano. Their adviser is Dr. Mariae Krishna Arreza.

Representing Region VII, the team qualified for the national round of the competition and received Php 250,000 in financial assistance to further enhance and develop their proposal, as well as support other necessary project-related expenses.

The Tourism Start-up Challenge (TSC) is a collaborative initiative of the Department of Tourism and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). The program provides college students with a platform to present innovative tourism-related programs and projects aligned with the government’s National Tourism Development Plan.

Congratulations to our future tourism innovators!
