To strengthen adolescent reproductive health education, Cebu Normal University (CNU) is looking into the integration of Reproductive Health Education for Adolescents (RHEA) into the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) curriculum.

This comes as CNU partners with the Commission on Population and Development (CPD) to review and enhance the existing BSEd course syllabi as part of boosting the institution’s commitment to innovative, responsive, and socially relevant education.

As part of the review process, a three-day curriculum integration workshop gathered select members of the CPD Integration Core Faculty Team at a hotel in Cebu City on July 8–10, 2026.

Led by Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Daisy Palompon, the workshop discussed teacher preparation for curriculum innovation, equipping future educators with the knowledge and competencies needed to deliver age-appropriate, evidence-based, and values-oriented reproductive health education.

The discussion was led by CPD Deputy Executive Director Lolito Tacardon and CPD-7 Regional Director Atty. Bruce Ragas, who both emphasized the vital role of higher education institutions in preparing future teachers to respond to the evolving reproductive health needs of Filipino adolescents.

Through this initiative, the University aims to ensure that future educators are not only academically prepared but are also equipped to promote informed decision-making, healthy relationships, responsible behavior, and adolescent well-being within their future classrooms.

A major output of the workshop was the revision and enhancement of identified BSEd course syllabi to intentionally integrate the principles and concepts of Reproductive Health Education for Adolescents (RHEA).

Following the workshop, the CPD Integration Core Faculty will embark on the development of learning modules that will support the implementation of the enhanced curriculum. Another series of workshops is also scheduled to prepare faculty members through specialized training on pedagogies and effective teaching strategies for delivering RHEA concepts in teacher education.

By forging meaningful partnerships with government agencies and responding proactively to national priorities, CNU continues to strengthen its role as a leading teacher education institution committed to producing competent, compassionate, and socially responsive educators who contribute to the holistic development of Filipino learners.
