On November 24-25, 2023, Cebu Normal University – College of Nursing, in collaboration with the Research Institute for Ageing & Health (RIAH), Nightingale Student Council (NSC) and select higher education institutions in the country marked the 12th International Conference of Nurses (ICONS 12) under the theme, “Advancing Healthcare for Older Persons: Current Trends and Future Directions” at The Golden Peak Hotel and Suites in Cebu City, Philippines. The event aimed to unite accomplished professionals in nursing, fostering the exchange of knowledge and research to advance nursing practice and education. With more than 200 attendees from the Philippines and various global regions, the two-day conference provided a platform for the convergence of insights and expertise in the dynamic field of nursing.
The event addressed the challenge of ensuring that older individuals can equally access and benefit from the advancements in the field of medical technology and gerontology. Within the event, research from various institutions within the Philippines, such as Siliman State College, Iloilo Doctors’ College, Cebu Doctors’ University and our very own Cebu Normal University, together with featured presenters from Indonesia, Singapore, and Taiwan were presented. The presenters showcased their works as well-spoken podium presentations and infographics throughout the event.
Innovations in the field of gerontology and health were the main focal point of the event. With research all encompassing elderly cognition, psychological well-being, vitality, sensory functions, and locomotion, forming a crucial aspect in achieving longevity and promoting healthy aging. The impact of information and communication technology (ICT) on the well-being of older people and recognizing the benefits it brings to overall living and health were the focal points of the event.
