Cebu Normal University (CNU) welcomed students and faculty from California State Polytechnic University – Humboldt on March 11, 2024 for an enriching exploratory learning experience. The visit of the aforementioned university delved into fostering potential cultural exchange, exploring internship opportunities, and sharing of different exemplary practices in the realm of quality education.

The dialogue between the two institutions also facilitated an extensive exchange of topics spanning research, curriculum development, and sustainable initiatives, among others.

During the dialogue, the Vice President for Research, Publication, Innovation, Commercialization, and Extension (VP-RPICE), Dr. Jay Picardal also presented his NEDA approved project on the Cinnamon Industry Revival in the Philippines. The project showcased the transformative impact of research on community development, particularly in Southern Cebu.

Both universities share a commitment to sustainable development, with California State Polytechnic University – Humboldt emerging as a leading undergraduate research institution focused on sustainable solutions for broader communities.

As part of the visit, students and professors from Humboldt enjoyed a comprehensive tour of CNU’s facilities, including the University museum and state-of-the-art laboratories.

The event was graced by the presence of CNU’s University President, Dr. Daniel Ariaso, Vice-President for Administration, Finance, and External Affairs, Dr. Joseph Tubilan, Director for Income Generating Projects, Dr. Mariae Krishna Arreza, Director of the Legal Unit, Atty. Lury Ed Marie Yray, and faculty members from the College of Teacher Education and Tourism.

Meanwhile, Dr. Tom Jackson, President of California State Polytechnic University – Hamboldt led the delegation together with Professor Dr. Matthew Dean, VP for Enrollment and Student Success, Dr. Chrissy Holliday, and Assistant Vice-President for Logistics, Ms. Cris Koczera.

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two universities will happen anytime soon.
