The activity was conducted at BJMP Naga Cebu in collaboration with Cebu Normal University (CNU) on May 8, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The initiative was aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being, which promotes the health and welfare of individuals; SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities, which emphasizes inclusivity and equal opportunities; and SDG 16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, which supports peaceful, just, and inclusive communities and institutions. Through this activity, CNU demonstrated its commitment to extending meaningful programs and services that contribute to the well-being of individuals within the BJMP community while promoting inclusivity, social responsibility, and stronger institutional partnerships.

Cebu Normal University, in partnership with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) – Naga City Jail, conducted a series of extension activities for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) and jail officers on May 8, 2026, utilizing a combination of online and face-to-face modalities. The initiative brought together the College of Medicine, College of Nursing, Kinesthetics Department, and Department of Psychology to provide an integrated approach to health, wellness, and psychosocial support.

The College of Medicine, College of Nursing, and Kinesthetics Department delivered their services through online platforms, offering medical consultations, health education, wellness lectures, and guidance on physical fitness and exercise. Through the online modality, the participating colleges were able to sustain health and wellness interventions despite scheduling and logistical challenges.

Meanwhile, the Department of Psychology provided counseling and psychosocial support through both online and face-to-face sessions. These interventions gave PDLs an opportunity to express their emotional concerns, receive psychological assistance, and participate in activities that promoted resilience, stress management, and positive coping mechanisms. The face-to-face sessions further enhanced rapport-building and allowed the provision of more individualized psychosocial support to participants who needed additional assistance.

Overall, the program emphasized the importance of holistic wellness by addressing both the physical and psychological needs of PDLs and jail personnel. Through multidisciplinary collaboration, the initiative promoted health awareness, healthy lifestyle practices, emotional resilience, mental well-being, and rehabilitation. It also aimed to ensure that participants who required further medical or psychological attention could be properly identified and referred for appropriate intervention.

Padayon, CNU!
