On March 20, 2026, the extension project entitled “Elderly Love: Making Life Worthwhile Before the Inevitable End” successfully conducted its inaugural activity in Mohon, Talisay City, Cebu. The activity was spearheaded by Project Leader Dr. Ma. Brenda O. Baldado, together with the dedicated project team members, Dr. Remaur Herrera, Dr. Venil Lovely Garciano, Dr. Veronica Marina Floro, and Dr. Ruby Facturan.
The inaugural activity served as a meaningful beginning to the project’s efforts to promote the well-being and quality of life of elderly individuals in the community. It provided an opportunity for the project team to reach out to senior citizens and emphasize the importance of showing care, respect, compassion, and appreciation for their experiences and contributions to their families and communities.
Throughout the activity, the project highlighted the value of Caregivers play a vital role in ensuring that elderly individuals receive proper and adequate nutrition. As they are often responsible for planning meals, purchasing and preparing food, and monitoring the dietary intake of older adults, their knowledge and skills greatly influence the quality of nutrition provided. However, many caregivers encounter challenges, including limited knowledge about proper nutrition, financial constraints, and the difficulty of preparing meals that meet the special dietary needs of elderly individuals with chronic health conditions. Recognizing these challenges, the program aims to provide caregivers with practical knowledge and skills through a targeted seminar on proper nutrition and affordable meal preparation. The seminar will highlight cost-effective meal planning, healthy and nutritious food alternatives, and simple food preparation techniques that can help preserve the nutritional value of meals. Through this initiative, caregivers will be empowered to make healthier and more informed food choices while considering the resources available to them, ultimately contributing to the improved health, well-being, and quality of life of the elderly.
The activity marked an important step in strengthening community support for senior citizens and reaffirming the commitment of the project team to creating spaces where the elderly feel valued, cared for, and respected. Through “Elderly Love,” the team hopes to contribute to making the later years of senior citizens more meaningful and worthwhile through continued compassion, connection, and community engagement.
