The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), particularly through the Social Technology Bureau (STB), continually develops programs to address rising societal concerns. One of the STB’s most recent efforts is “Tara, BASA!” This tutoring program attempts to help struggling and non-readers by building stronger family and community networks. It also supports college students in furthering their education while contributing to national development projects.

After being tested and proven beneficial in the National Capital Region, “Tara, BASA!” is extending to Cebu City. The DSWD-STD focal persons worked with Cebu Normal University-College of Teacher Education students to deploy learning facilitators, and youth development workers for the program. They addressed the application process for the kids who will be enrolled in June 2024 and finalized the necessary details for the program’s success.

The MOA will be signed on March 8, at 10 a.m., at Cebu City Hall. Meanwhile, training for student tutors and youth development workers will commence soon.
