To strengthen community participation in local tourism, the Cebu Normal University (CNU) Tourism Management Department (TMD) and the Local Government Unit of Badian are eyeing an extension project initiative.

The extension project, titled “Young Tourism Ambassadors for a Breathtaking Badian: Strengthening Community Capacities for Sustainable and Inclusive Tourism,” aims to establish a community-based tour guiding program within the municipality of Badian that enables senior high school students to introduce visitors to attractions within the municipality.

Among the key goals of the project are the inventory of the municipality’s tourism assets, including Badian’s natural, cultural, historical, and intangible heritage resources.

Through the inventory, the project will identify and document tourism assets that can be developed into future tourism products in Badian aside from the existing canyoneering and waterfall experiences.

Moreover, a modular training program on tour guiding skills, cultural interpretation, and customer service will also be conducted to ensure local heritage and environmental conservation.

To ensure project sustainability, the establishment of the Badian Youth Tour Guides Association would also be institutionalized in collaboration with the Municipal Tourism Office for continuous learning activities.

The discussion on July 21 was attended by LGU Badian Mayor Jerome Librando, along with TMD Chairman Dr. Clareziel Ladringan, and faculty members Dr. Melchor Ruby and Prof. Bharbie Paballa.
