Cebu Braille Center and Cebu Normal University (CNU) Integrated Laboratory School (ILS) elementary students took part in the first National Toothbrush Day celebration as they joined the simultaneous nationwide brushing of teeth activity of the Philippine Dental Association (PDA).
Dentists from PDA-Cebu Chapter, Inc. in collaboration with the Department of Health-Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CVCHD), Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC), and CNU Health Services Office jointly reminded students from Cebu Braille Center and Grades 1 to 3 of CNU-ILS about oral hygiene last Monday, February 3 at the ILS Centennial Stage.
The dentists imparted ways on proper oral health including the right fluoride content to be used in toothpaste and the right amount to be applied. They also demonstrated the proper way of brushing through a dental model.
They said that eating of sweets and drinking of soft drinks, and other artificial drinks can cause tooth decay. The dentists then suggested students should drink plenty of water and eat nutritious foods.
The dentists also advised to have at least two dental visit-checkups per year.
DOH-CVCHD has provided cups, hand towels, and toothbrushes for the actual “Sabayang Pagsisipilyo” or simultaneous nationwide tooth brushing drill which took place at 9:30 a.m.
The simultaneous tooth brushing or Mega brushing is part of the month-long activity of PDA in celebration of the 16th National Dental Health Month with the theme, Unite for Mouth Health.
The Mega brushing is set to be done every 1st Monday of February which aims to promote oral health to every Filipino and to create awareness on the importance of maintaining good oral health in different ages and sectors in society through collaboration of agencies or groups. (JDF)
