On September 12, 2025, the extension project titled “PISI Panginabuhi: Lampakanay Handicraft Livelihood Skills Training for Women” was successfully conducted in Basak, Lapu-Lapu City.

This meaningful initiative aimed to empower local women by providing them with sustainable livelihood skills through lampakanay (seagrass) handicraft making. The training sought to promote economic independence and preserve traditional crafts within the community.

The project was led by Mrs. Mary Jane Rieta and supported by dedicated project members: Dr. Jannet Bondad, Dr. Charess Goles, Dr. Dhimna Geganto, Dr. Remelda Egano, and Mr. Matthew Bravo.

Their collaborative efforts played a key role in equipping participants with both the skills and motivation needed to pursue livelihood opportunities in handicraft production.
