Bia: Baba Baya – Building Reading Foundations with Sounds, Letters, and Phonics

On September 12, 2025, Cebu Normal University Balamban Campus continued its literacy extension program at Biasong Elementary School with the activity titled “Sounds, Letters, and Phonics.” The session focused on strengthening learners’ phonemic awareness and sound recognition, which are essential foundations for reading.

To carry this out, pupils were introduced to letters and sounds through songs and games that made learning enjoyable and interactive. They also took part in phonics drills to practice sound recognition and blending. To complete the session, learners engaged in hands-on activities with letters, allowing them to connect sounds with symbols in a concrete and participatory way.

The activity not only enhanced early literacy skills but also created a joyful environment where pupils learned through play and practice. With the support of the faculty and administration of Biasong Elementary School, this effort demonstrates Cebu Normal University Balamban Campus’ continuing commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, which advocates inclusive and equitable learning opportunities for all.
