The Cebu Normal University Balamban Campus, through its extension initiative “Teach Me How to Fish: Sewing Extension Project,” successfully conducted its second training session titled “Introduction of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in Sewing” on October 24, 2025, at Barangay Nangka Hall, Balamban, Cebu.
This session aimed to equip participants from the Nangka community with essential knowledge about the different types of Personal Protective Equipment used in sewing, their proper utilization, and their vital role in ensuring safety and efficiency in every sewing activity.
Participants were measuring and cutting fabric patterns, preparing materials, and operating sewing machines under the supervision of the facilitators. These hands-on activities allowed learners to apply safety practices while performing basic sewing tasks, reinforcing the importance of using protective equipment such as aprons, gloves, masks, safety glasses, and finger guards.
Facilitators provided in-depth discussions and live demonstrations, emphasizing that a safe and well-prepared workspace leads to better workmanship and productivity. Participants actively engaged throughout the session by asking questions, sharing insights, and demonstrating their growing confidence in handling sewing tools and equipment safely.
The training reaffirmed the commitment of Cebu Normal University Balamban Campus to promoting community empowerment through practical skills training while fostering a culture of health, safety, and responsibility. Through the Teach Me How to Fish project, the university continues to advance livelihood development, resilience, and sustainable community growth.
Together, we stitch not only fabric but also a future woven with safety, confidence, and empowerment.
