This collaborative initiative among EDCOM II, the Department of Education (DepEd), and the Cebu Normal University (CNU) underscores the importance of inter-institutional cooperation in achieving quality education reforms.

Republic Act No. 10157, also known as the Kindergarten Education Act, establishes kindergarten as a compulsory and mandatory entry stage to basic education. Section 2 of this Act provides that all five-year-old children shall be given equal opportunities for kindergarten education to effectively promote their physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development, including values formation, to ensure that they are school-ready.

Specifically, the program aims to achieve the following outcomes:

  1. Enhance kindergarten teachers’ professional development in the areas of:
    1.1. Literacy
    1.2. Numeracy, based on the results of the needs assessment
    1.3. 21st Century Skills
  2. Increase the literacy and numeracy performance rates among kindergarten learners.
  3. Develop a proposed professional development program for kindergarten teachers, based on the identified needs and assessment results.
