The extension service rendered by Mt. Manunggal Nature Trek and Tours Group of CNU Balamban Campus was filled with revered commitment, passion, and love for service gleaned not just through the efforts of the proponents, but also by the growing commitment of the tour guides of Mt. Manunggal.

The highlight of the discourse was inspired by sir Jason Hermosilla’s talk titled “Service from the Heart.” Sir Hermosilla’s discussion encapsulated how the simple yet intentional gestures of workers in the tourism and hospitality industry can elevate customer experience. He emphasized how putting one’s heart into the craft one does creates a meaningful experience for others. At the end of the fruitful sharing, randomly selected participants were encouraged to write in paper hearts how they can improve their service to the tourists who visit Mt. Manunggal.

The gathering has also given the faculty-proponents the opportunity to share with the guides some materials they can use in their day-to-day job. They created IDs for the guides’ proper identification, vests for their safety, and notebooks and pens they can use not just for their notes in the series of training but also to journal their encounters with the guests that they find meaningful.

Overall, the visit to Brgy. Sunog was a full-hearted experience. The proponents’ renewed perspective owing to the tour guides’ enthusiasm to share the beauty of their home to the world fuels more initiatives to empower the community. Indeed, the call for service has to be coupled with a heart to serve. When we are called to serve, we are called to love.
