Faculty , staff and nursing students from Cebu Normal University College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences and College of Medicine partnered with Fraternal Order of Eagles, Cebu to respond to the call of the people in San Vicente, Liloan, Cebu. The activity focused on providing free medicall, dental , surgical and legal services as requested by the barangay residents .

CNU-VSMMC COM honored for helping save lives
ebu Normal University Visayas Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC)-College of Medicine (COM) is recognized for its invaluable contributions to saving lives during VSMMC’s tribute activity this afternoon.
CNU is one of VSMMC’s educational institution partners in organizing the Mobile Blood Donation activities in 2023, which “played a vital role in saving lives of countless patients.”
“…for your exceptional dedication and remarkable contribution towards the achievement of safe and quality blood supply for our community,” reads the citation of the certificate of appreciation.
Medical students Marc Jebrick Ilustrisimo and Kimberly Camoro-Da Silva representing the COM Student Council of 2023 receive the certificate during the Adlaw Pasalamat sa Dugong Halad, a tribute to blood donors and partners, held at a hotel in Cebu City.
Accompanying them are CNU-VSMMC COM Dean Dr. Ma. Socorro Manaloto and IFMSU and RDP Director Dr. Lelani Dapat on behalf of CNU President Dr. Daniel Ariaso, Sr.
VSMMC Chief of Hospital Dr. Gerardo Aquino Jr. thanks the partners and donors, whom he called the “silent and unsung” heroes, for being the “lifeblood of our community.”
“It is your donations that make our hospitals have the lifeline to save lives everyday.
It ushers hope, healing and recovery. Simple act yet with profound love that ensures timely and effective care to patient in need,” says Dr. Aquino.
The donations did not only ushered the creation of blood bank, but Dr. Aquino says also built a “reservoir of hope.”
“You have given a precious gift and that is to save lives. You are our beacon of hope and healing. You are true champions of life and we celebrate you today and always,” he adds.

CNU Nursing Students Champion Wellness in Borbon Medical Mission
With hearts rooted in service, CNU’s Nightingale Student Council joined the SK Federation of Borbon in the Building Up a Sense of Integration: Community Health and Wellness Medical Mission at Barangay Don Gregorio Antigua. Nursing students delivered vital health services—such as vital signs monitoring, therapeutic communication, and health education—to underserved residents. Their dedication highlighted the role of nurses not only as clinical professionals but as compassionate community leaders. The mission aimed to improve public health awareness and foster trust in healthcare. Volunteers exemplified how genuine care, knowledge, and empathy can uplift communities and inspire future service.

CNU Students Serve Minglanilla in ‘MEDIKASYON’ Medical Mission
CNU-CNAHS and CNU-VSMMC students proudly joined hands in the MEDIKASYON: Medical Mission and Health Education Para sa Tanan held at Poblacion, Ward IV, Minglanilla. With the rallying call “Para nimo, para nako, para natong tanan,” volunteers provided free medical consultations and conducted health education sessions for the local community. The event emphasized the importance of service beyond the walls of classrooms and hospitals. It fostered a sense of unity, purpose, and compassion among future healthcare professionals. CNU students expressed fulfillment in being able to give back, with many calling it a step closer to their dream of serving the Filipino people.

CNU Nursing and Medicine Students Unite for Surgical Mission in Alcoy
Nursing is more than the clinical skills learned in classrooms—it’s about making a real difference. On June 23, 2024, student volunteers from the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences of Cebu Normal University joined the CNU-VSMMC College of Medicine’s medical, dental, and surgical mission in Bonbon, Alcoy. Led by the Medicine Student Council, volunteers offered free circumcisions and minor surgeries, especially for young boys. Nursing students applied their Operating Room competencies in serving the underserved. “It’s about having the heart to help,” said Matthew Somosot, NSC Governor. The mission embodied compassion, collaboration, and care in action.

CCMC-College of Nursing Alumni Unite for Community Health Mission
The CCMC-College of Nursing Alumni Associations Inc. proudly launched the “Halad Pagpangalagad” Grand Alumni Homecoming Outreach Program at Plaza Sugbo. In partnership with Office of Senior Citizens, Affairs , Research Institute for Aging and Health , the Cebu City Government, Department of Health and CCMC Hospital, student nurses and clinical instructors from Cebu Normal University’s College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences volunteered their skills in a medical mission. This collaborative effort showcased their dedication to community welfare, providing essential health services and support to local residents. The event highlighted the spirit of service and the strong bond between alumni and their community.

Red Cross Youth and CNU Medical Students Hold Blood Drive
CNU-VSMMC medical students, led by Kimberly Camoro, partnered with the Red Cross Youth Council of Sacred Heart de Ateneo for a Christmas Fair Mass Blood Drive. Volunteers from batches Dexteras and Primacordis served as medical staff, assisting in blood extraction and donor support. The drive promoted the value of voluntary blood donation during the holiday season. It also allowed students to experience medical service outside the classroom while giving back to society. The event helped save lives and raised awareness on the critical need for blood supply.

Operation Tuli and Surgical Mission Held in Badian
The CNU-VSMMC College of Medicine conducted a two-day Operation Tuli and Surgical Mission in Badian, Cebu. Faculty and student volunteers offered free circumcision services and minor surgeries to children and residents in need. The outreach aimed to promote public health, hygiene, and surgical awareness in the local community. Medical students gained hands-on experience in surgical procedures while deepening their understanding of rural health needs. Everlasting Hope Welcomes Medical Volunteers from CNU-VSMMC

Faculty , Administrative staff and student volunteers from CNU-VSMMC and CNAHS journeyed to Olango Island to deliver essential medical services to this geographically isolated and disadvantaged area (GIDA). Bonbon, Alcoy Receives Free Medical and Surgical Care
Bonbon, Alcoy residents received much-needed healthcare during the Medical and Surgical Mission organized by CNU-VSMMC College of Medicine . Faculty and students performed consultations and minor surgical procedures, addressing various local health concerns. Shoebox Gifts Bring Joy to Chronically Ill Children
Led by third-year student Grescelle Gonzaga, CNU-VSMMC College of Medicine conducted the Kythe Foundation Christmas Outreach at Perpetual Succor Hospital. Volunteers distributed shoeboxes filled with toys, snacks, and personal items to children living with chronic illnesses. The project aimed to bring Christmas cheer and emotional support to young patients. Volunteers shared stories, sang songs, and interacted with the children, creating a festive and caring atmosphere. This initiative showcased how medical students can make a difference beyond clinical care—by spreading joy and compassion to the most vulnerable.

Medical Students Support Coastal Clean-Up Drive
CNU-VSMMC College of Medicine students and faculty joined the Cebu Citywide Cleanup Challenge by donating materials for the Coastal Clean-Up organized by CCENRO. Although the team did not participate directly on-site, their contribution helped ensure the success of the city’s environmental initiative. The act exemplified passive volunteerism and environmental advocacy, emphasizing that support comes in many forms. Organizers expressed deep appreciation for the College’s involvement and encouraged continued participation in environmental preservation efforts. The event reflects the institution’s holistic approach to health and sustainability.


CNU ROTC students donate in PA bloodletting drive
Thirty-three Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) cadets of Cebu Normal University gave back to the community by donating their blood during the celebration of the 128th Philippine Army Anniversary on Saturday, March 8.
With the theme “Dugong Alay ng Laang Kawal at mga Makabagong Bayani Tungo sa Matatag na Sandigan ng Bagong Pilipinas,” the PA-wide simultaneous activity aimed to increase safe blood supply for patients, including the army, reservists, and ROTC cadets, in need for free.
The bloodletting activity at the Camp Lapu-Lapu in Barangay Apas, Cebu City also highlighted the spirit of volunteerism and humanitarian service among reservists, proving that their duty extends beyond national defense.
It was participated by regular and reservist personnel, ROTC cadets, military dependents, and civilian stakeholders.
It was also participated by CNU National Service Training Program OIC Director Deofel Balijon and NSTP/ROTC admin staffer Ryan Selleza.

Students Plant Trees in Casili for Environmental Advocacy
CNU-VSMMC students and faculty came together in Casili, Spangdaku, Cebu for a Tree Planting Activity in a powerful act of environmental volunteerism. The activity aimed to promote ecological awareness and combat deforestation through community participation. Volunteers planted native tree species in key areas, contributing to the long-term goal of environmental preservation. This outreach not only demonstrated the College’s commitment to public health but also to the well-being of the planet. It was a reminder that healthcare professionals must also serve as advocates for environmental sustainability.

CNU students attend 1st Regional Volunteerism Exhibit in R7
Cebu Normal University students were among the participants of the first-ever Regional Volunteerism Exhibit (RVE).
The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA)-7 through the Regional Search Committee (RSC) for the 2024 Search for Outstanding Volunteers and the RSC Technical Working Group on Volunteerism Exhibit held the RVE on September 27, 2024, at SM Seaside City Cebu in time for the 2024 Regional Development Council Week celebration.
The event was aimed to showcase the diverse and impactful volunteer initiatives in the region. There were ten volunteer exhibitors in the event, including the Philippine Red Cross-Cebu Chapter, Department of Social Welfare and Development 7 (DSWD), Parole and Probation Administration (PPA), Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation (CCEF), Global Initiative for Exchange and Development (GIED), Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Incorporation (RAFI), UP-Cebu Ugnayan ng Pahinungod, Department of Tourism, Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA), and Pangasinan State University Communiversidad.

UNESCO’s Advocacies in Action: An Account from Cebu Normal University’s Participation
Cebu Normal University actively participates in the national coordination, planning, and alignment activities organized by UNESCO Philippine National Commission (UNACOM) and the National Coordinating Body of Clubs for UNESCO in the Philippines (NCBCUP) to promote UNESCO’s programs in the country. Dr. Janet Mananay, who is the Region 7 focal person for Global Citizenship Education and CNU (Supreme Student Council) SSC Adviser, represented CNU’s involvement in the event. Harold’s Evotel hosted a three-day event from March 1-3, 2024 which aimed to highlight numerous programs and initiatives under UNACOM. These included the International Geoscience and Geopark Programmes, Man and Biosphere (MAB) Programme, UNESCO World Heritage Programme, UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), and UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Programme.
