Cebu Normal University (CNU) reinforced its commitment to advancing teacher education through its participation in the Teacher Education Excellence Center (TEEC) Regional Co-Design Workshop held on July 28–29, 2026 at a hotel in Cebu City.
Hosted by the University of San Carlos, the designated TEEC Hub for the Visayas, the two-day workshop brought together representatives of teacher education institutions and other education stakeholders to examine concerns affecting teacher education and quality education in the region.
Representing CNU were CTE Dean Dr. Michelle Mae Olvido, along with faculty members Dr. Venus Cortes, Dr. Chery Fernandez, Dr. Jo Ann Maglasang, Dr. Marchee Picardal, and Dr. Blanca Alejandro. They were joined by pre-service teachers Joyse Kaye Buro (BEED General Education), Jonah Mae Tudtud (BECED), and Blessy Archival (BECED), highlighting the university’s commitment to collaborative and inclusive teacher preparation.
Participants identified key teacher education challenges, mapped existing regional efforts, discussed the proposed response, and established commitments and ways forward for strengthening teacher education. The sessions helped clarify how various stakeholders may respond to regional concerns and support more coordinated efforts to strengthen teacher education.
As one of the Regional Centers of Excellence for Teacher Education, the delegation participated in the plenary sessions and group discussions, sharing institutional perspectives on regional concerns and existing efforts in teacher education. The participation of CNU’s pre-service teachers also gave them valuable exposure to broader conversations on the challenges, initiatives, and future directions of teacher education.
By helping design region-specific, evidence-based teacher education initiatives, CNU continues to contribute to efforts that strengthen teacher preparation and improve learning outcomes across the Visayas, underscoring the university’s commitment to educational excellence and regional development.
