The Comprehensive Psychosocial Health Program for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) and Jail Officers: Medical Consultation and Psychosocial Wellness Intervention was implemented by Cebu Normal University (CNU) Extension Services in partnership with BJMP Naga Cebu. The program was led by Dr. Ma. Rosita Ampoyas-Hernani, with the participation of faculty and personnel from the College of Medicine (COM), Psychology Department, CCAS–Kinesthetics Department, and College of Nursing.
The activity brought together a multidisciplinary team composed of Margaret Modequillo, Anacleto Clent Banaay, Kathleen Joy Abanilla, and Angela Cabergas from the College of Medicine, as well as Evelyn Guimarino, Gyleivi Pryle Bongato, and Mary Ann Espinosa from the Psychology Department. Their collective efforts focused on providing medical consultation and psychosocial wellness interventions to PDLs and jail officers, addressing their physical health, emotional well-being, and overall wellness.
Conducted on June 11, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the program reflected CNU’s commitment to extending accessible and responsive health and psychosocial services to underserved communities. The initiative was aligned with SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities, and SDG 16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, highlighting the University’s role in promoting inclusive health services, reducing inequalities, and strengthening partnerships with correctional institutions. Through this collaborative effort, the program contributed to the holistic well-being and welfare of both PDLs and jail personnel.
The College of Medicine and the Department of Psychology of Cebu Normal University (CNU), in partnership with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) – Naga City Jail, conducted the Medical Consultation and Psychosocial Wellness Program on June 11, 2026. The initiative was designed to provide comprehensive health and psychosocial services to Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) and BJMP personnel, recognizing the importance of addressing both their physical and psychological well-being.
The activity provided a range of health and psychosocial interventions, including counseling sessions and mental health education, to address the diverse needs of the participants. By integrating physical and psychological support, the program aimed to promote their overall well-being, resilience, and rehabilitation.
The initiative emphasized the importance of preventive healthcare, mental health promotion, and psychosocial support as essential components of holistic wellness. By providing these interventions, the program contributed to improving the quality of life of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs), supporting their emotional and psychological well-being, and helping create a more supportive environment conducive to their rehabilitation and reintegration.
