Cebu Normal University reinforced its commitment to quality education by equipping hundreds of educators with the knowledge, skills, and support needed for the opening of classes during the first day of the three-day 2026 In-Service Training for Teachers (INSET).
Bringing together faculty members from the university’s campuses, the annual capacity-building program centered on strengthening teachers’ professional competence while promoting their holistic well-being, recognizing that empowered educators are key to meaningful learning and effective public service.
The opening day at the Samuel MacClintock (SM) Hall featured sessions on mental and spiritual wellness, occupational health, workplace well-being, and syllabus enhancement, ensuring that faculty members are academically prepared while also being physically, mentally, and emotionally equipped to navigate the demands of the new academic year.
In his keynote message, SUC President Dr. Laurence Garcia underscored that investing in educators ultimately translates into better learning experiences for students.
“When we care for our physical health, we become better teachers, better mentors, better researchers, better colleagues, and better human beings,” he said.
He also emphasized the importance of emotional resilience, encouraging educators to nurture not only academic excellence but also compassion in the classroom, reminding them that students deserve teachers who inspire through both knowledge and empathy.
As CNU continues its journey of recovery and renewal, Dr. Garcia called on the faculty to foster a culture of unity, respect, and collaboration, where differences become opportunities for dialogue and collective growth.
Highlighting the university’s role in nation-building, he challenged educators to become catalysts for community transformation.
“When one classroom is transformed, countless students are inspired. And when thousands of students are inspired, communities are changed,” he said.
A key highlight of the opening program was the presentation of the university’s Strategic Directions by Dr. Garcia, providing faculty members with a shared vision for institutional growth. This was followed by updates on the CNU organizational structure from Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Daisy Palompon, aligning educators with the University’s priorities and academic initiatives.
Meanwhile, Dr. Remedios Bacus of the College of Teacher Education facilitated a session on syllabus enhancement, helping faculty members further strengthen course design and classroom delivery in preparation for the new semester.
