As part of the ASEAN for the Peoples Week 2026 organized by the Foreign Policy Community at Indonesia (FPCI), representatives from Cebu Normal University (CNU) participated in the ASEAN Community Town Hall held on May 8 at a hotel on Mactan Island.

The event gathered government representatives, experts, educators, and members of civil society to discuss key regional issues affecting ASEAN, including climate change, health, digitalization, political and security challenges, economic cooperation, and people-centered regional development.

Although the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between CNU and FPCI is still awaiting formal signing ceremony following its recent approval by the Board of Regents, both institutions have already begun collaborative efforts through the ASEAN Community Town Hall.

CNU served as a session partner for Session 3 entitled “Power, Risk, and Resilience: Securing ASEAN’s Climate and Energy Future.”

CNU successfully managed over 50 registered participants for the event, composed of both onsite and online attendees.

The onsite delegation was led by Dr. Janet Mananay, Vice President for Internationalization, who also participated as a discussant during the session’s question and answer segment.

She was joined by Internationalization Chairs Erma Janne Cayas and Roesher Melle Tampus.

Also present were Dr. Clareziel Ladringan, dean of the College of Tourism, Hotel and Hospitality Management (CTHHM), and faculty members from CTHHM, the College of Computing, Artificial Intelligence, and Sciences (CCAIS), College of Public Governance and Safety (CPGS), and the CNU Balamban Campus.

On the other hand, members of the CNU Internationalization Ambassadors Organization led the university’s online delegation, actively engaging in the discussions through the event livestream.

CNU’s participation also aligned with the ASEAN Summit activities in Cebu last week, further strengthening the university’s commitment to ASEAN engagement and global citizenship.
