The Cebu Normal University’s Innovation and Technology Support Office launched a whole day of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Training along with the student innovators from the Main Campus, to impart their knowledge to the student leaders, journalists, and teachers of Cebu Normal University-Medellin Campus that assembled at the campus library on September 6, 2024.
This training is majorly intended to address some of the fundamental areas of intellectual property law to ensure better protection of intellectual property rights and encourage both students and teachers to innovate and produce research outputs that will not only be beneficial to the community but will also be able to generate income. Additionally, the filing of online registration of patents, utility models, industrial designs, trademarks, and copyrights was also expressed in this program to be a crucial step in protecting your rights and ownership of your ideas or inventions.
Seven major topics headed during the event were as follows:
Intellectual Property (IP) Foundations that bring out the basic concepts of IP.
Student Innovators: Navigating and Applying Intellectual Property Knowledge gives guidelines on the protection and utilization of innovation by students.
Cebu Normal University’s IP Policy briefs the attendees on the IP policies adopted within the university.
The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines E-services and Incentive Package Program presents available e-services and incentive packages like youth intellectual property rights programs that encourage youth to create and innovate patents, industrial designs, or utility models in return for an incentive.
Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) Basic Operations provides an overview of ITSO functions and services.
CNU-ITSO Future Directions discussing the future directions and goals of ITSO.
Onsite/Online Filing Workshop (Patent, UM, ID, Trademark, Copyright Application) giving step-by-step training on how to file IP applications both onsite and online.
Notable speakers included:
Ms. Nerissel H. Mahidlawon, IP Field Operations Specialist, IP Satellite Office Region 7, provides expert views on IP rights and its registration processes.
The student innovators, namely Jasmin Tenebroso, Gemaeka Juban, and Jenaiza Deresas, shared their experiences and insights;
Dr. Jollibee A. Aharul, OIC Director, expounded on the university’s IP policies and procedures;
Dr. Joje Mar P. Sanchez, CNU-ITSO Technical Staff, led the practical workshop on filing IP applications.
Furthermore, this interactive training aims to give way better understanding within the university setting for more innovations and proper management of IP. In the end, with the encouragement and knowledge shared by the speakers as well as their tips, experiences, and insights, participants are surely equipped with very valuable knowledge of safeguarding their creative and intellectual works, placing them well regarding future innovations and contributions within their respective fields.
