Dr Leodinito Y. Cañete, BOR and University Secretary, represented CNU in the 11th ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) Training Course for Accomplishing Program Assessment conducted by the ASEAN University Network at Microtel by Wyndam, MOA from March 7-10, 2016.

The ASEAN University Network (AUN) is an autonomous organization, established under an umbrella of ASEAN and the mandate of Ministers responsible for higher education in ASEAN countries, dealing with the promotion of human resource development in the field of higher education within ASEAN and with its dialogue partners.

The growing trend of higher education system towards internationalization, coupled with the increasing demand from universities in ASEAN region to raise their programs’ recognition and quality improvement, has led AUN to develop a robust QA system in higher education institutions. Since 1998, AUN-QA System has played a key role in the development of a harmonized QA system among the member universities, as well as close cooperation with European partners.

The training made CNU eligible for AUN-QA Associate Membership, provided that the university will implement AUN-QA System. When the system will be in place, CNU’s application for AUN-QA Associate Membership will be reviewed and approved by the AUN-QA Council. If the university is accepted, the university can then request for international assessment by the AUN Secretariat.

The introductory course covered the AUN-QA assessment process, interpretation of the 11 assessment criteria for degree programs, application of the plan-do-check-act (PDCA) process for self-assessment of degree programs, explanation of the requirements of the Self-Assessment Report (SAR) and application of appropriate techniques for writing SAR.
Dr Cañete’s participation was made possible with the assistance of the Commission on Higher Education.
