In a significant stride towards promoting Global Citizenship Education (GCED), Cebu Normal University (CNU) officially signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Philippine Normal University (PNU) and the Global Citizenship Center (GCC) Philippines on September 6, 2024, at the Philippine Normal University.

 

This landmark partnership designates CNU as the Regional Hub for Global Citizenship Education in Region 7, reaffirming the university’s commitment to fostering global citizenship values and practices within the region. The agreement was signed by CNU President Dr. Daniel Ariaso Sr., alongside key representatives from PNU and GCC Philippines.

 

Dr. Janet Mananay, CNU’s Director for Internationalization, will serve as the Regional Focal Person for GCED in Region 7. In this role, Dr. Mananay will spearhead initiatives aimed at integrating global citizenship principles across educational institutions in the region, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

Dr. Mananay also participated in a meeting and planning session with other GCED Regional Hub focal persons. This collaborative session focused on strategizing the implementation of GCED programs across different regions in the Philippines, ensuring a unified approach to promoting global citizenship education nationwide.

 

The collaboration between CNU, PNU, and GCC Philippines marks a critical step in advancing education that promotes inclusivity, peace, and sustainable development. It underscores CNU’s strategic vision to lead in global citizenship education and strengthen its position as a key player in regional and international educational collaborations.

 

Dr. Ariaso emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating, “This MOA signifies our unwavering commitment to advancing global citizenship education in Region 7. Through this collaboration, we aim to equip our educators and students with the knowledge and skills needed to address global challenges and contribute meaningfully to society.”

 

The signing ceremony was attended by esteemed leaders from PNU, GCC Philippines, and CNU, who all expressed optimism for the transformative impact of this partnership on the educational landscape in the region.
