In line with the ASEAN Month celebration, Cebu Normal University’s Office for Internationalization kicks off the first-ever Photo Exhibit featuring the vibrant cultures, arts, landscapes and people of the ASEAN countries.

 

The exhibit formally begins with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Vice President for Academic Affairs and Internationalization Dr. Joseph Elvir Tubilan, Internationalization Office Director Dr. Janet Mananay, College of Teacher Education Dean Dr. Venus Cortes, BPED/BCAED Chair Jorjie Nepangue, and Prof. Katherine Pacquiao.

 

Culture and Arts students from BCAED Rondalla Organization and other artists serenade the students and spectators with their renditions of “Matud Nila”, Bini’s “Salamin, Salamin” and Thailand’s folk song Loy Krathong, among others.

 

Their digital artworks of ASEAN Nations’ cultures and arts, and hand-painted bags are also among the highlights of the exhibit, which is open for the entire week.

 

VPAAI Tubilan, in his opening remarks, stresses the importance of celebrating the vibrant tapestry of ASEAN culture and arts.

He adds that “color and artistry connect us all”.

Prof. Nepangue, on the other hand, urges CNU students to inculcate in them the three Ps–protect, promote, and preserve the culture and arts.

Dr. Cortes, for her part, recognizes the invaluable contributions of the BCAED students and the Office for Internationalization for making the photo exhibit kickoff a success.

 

In a closing statement, Dr. Mananay expresses her delight in the activity, acknowledging all efforts put in setting up the exhibit.

“Little by little, a little becomes a lot,” she says.

As part of the ASEAN celebration, CNU will also feature ASEAN flavors next week.

 

The Office for Internationalization will host the ASEAN Food Festival which will offer a taste of diverse culinary traditions of the region. The activity is designed to engage students, faculty, and staff and to promote awareness of ASEAN’s contributions to regional development and cultural richness.
