#CNUPride | CNU communication students win big in DAR’s Reg’l Film Fest
Cebu Normal University’s Bachelor of Arts in Communication students specializing in Broadcast Journalism bagged minor and major awards during the Department of Agrarian Reform’s (DAR) Regional Film Festival – Pelikula Agraryo 2025 yesterday.
The incoming third year students from the Department of Communication and Media Studies received plaques and cash prizes amounting to P51,000 for their film, Lunhaw ang Bulawan.
Major Award:
2nd Best Film – ARBO Category
Minor Awards:
3rd Best Poster – Lunhaw ang Bulawan
Best Screenplay – Lunhaw ang Bulawan
Nominee for Best Editing – Lunhaw ang Bulawan
Nominee for Best in Cinematography – Lunhaw ang Bulawan
Best Director – Ms. Chinah Mae Alferez
Best Actress – Ms. Divine Valmores
The film was brought to life by the team composed of Chinah Mae Alferez, Laurence Manuel Barong, Mares Cañete, Delfin Jr. Lidot, Cherry Jane Lodonia, Rabby Mosqueda, Ulysses Santosidad III, John Segovia, and Divine Valmores.The team was mentored by Dr. Michelle Dialogo-Tubilan, chair of the Department of Communication and Media Studies.
Dr. Dialogo-Tubilan thanked the team for “accepting my challenge, embracing my encouragement, and saying yes to representing us.”
“Let us keep on telling stories rooted in truth and accuracy,” she added.
PelikulAgraryo, a DAR initiative, encouraged young filmmakers to creatively depict real stories of agrarian reform success. By collaborating with local Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) and their organizations, the competition aimed to humanize policy impacts and reveal how land reform transforms lives beyond mere statistics and land titles for farmers.
Also present at the awards night was Dr. Joseph Elvir Tubilan, Vice President for Research, Publication, Innovation, Commercialization, and Extension of Cebu Normal University.
