The commitment to providing impactful and responsive extension services remains a cornerstone of our campus’s mission, particularly under the guidance of Extension Chair Dr. Jay Bacunawa. Together with a team of dedicated project leaders—Dr. Maricel Rivera, Mrs. Resil Sinadjan, and Mr. Louwel Ponpon—the campus has achieved notable progress in meeting the diverse needs of our partner communities.
On August 24-25, 2024, CNU Medellin hosted a series of advanced training sessions, each tailored to address specific local challenges and opportunities. These sessions were part of the ongoing effort to empower community members through targeted educational and developmental programs.
The upcoming training includes three key projects:
1. Mama/Papa na, Ma-istra/Ma-istro pa (MAPA): A Training Program to Strengthen the Role of Parents as Tutors (Phase II: Intermediate Level)- Building on the success of its initial phase, this program continues to support parents in becoming effective educational guides for their children. The intermediate level will delve deeper into strategies and techniques that enhance learning at home.
2. ArT (Arnis for Tanods): A Filipino Martial Arts Training for Brgy. Tanods of Medellin, Cebu- This initiative aims to bolster community safety by equipping barangay tanods with skills in Arnis, the traditional Filipino martial art. The training is designed to improve their capability in maintaining peace and order within the community.
3. Sabon sa Paglaum, Buwa sa Kaugmaon: A Soap Making Project for Barangay Maharuhay, Medellin, Cebu- Focused on economic empowerment, this project teaches residents the craft of soap making. By acquiring this skill, participants can create sustainable livelihoods and contribute to the economic development of their community.
These sessions are expected to enhance the participants’ skills in education, community safety, and economic development, fostering sustainable and positive change across their communities. Through such initiatives, the campus continues to reinforce its commitment to serving and uplifting its partner communities through education and empowerment. Moreover, students’ participation was encouraged in every session of the program.
