LOOK | CNU Joins Regional Culminating Activity of DSWD’s Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program
 
Cebu Normal University (CNU) Main, Balamban, and Medellin campuses actively participated in the Regional Culminating Activity of the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program (TBTP) held on September 19, 2025
at Cebu Technological University (CTU) Main Campus Gymnatorium.
 
Representing CNU President Dr. Daniel A. Ariaso, Sr. were Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Meshell Balijon and Vice President for Special Needs, Early Childhood Education, Internationalization and Lifelong Learning Dr. Janet Mananay. Dr. Mananay also delivered the message in behalf of the partner State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) in the region.
 
In her speech, Dr. Mananay underscored the significance of DSWD’s Tara, Basa! Program as a platform that not only provides academic support to learners but also empowers tutors, trainers, and communities through volunteerism and shared responsibility. She stressed that the program demonstrates how SUCs and LUCs, in partnership with government agencies like DSWD, can contribute to inclusive education and nation-building by addressing learning gaps and fostering holistic growth.
 
Also in attendance from CNU Main, Balamban, and Medellin were Chrysler M. Cabusa, Mrs. Gee Rianne Ranario, Mrs. Reggie Labastida, Ms. Nomel Alyssa Andan, Ms. Cherry Dumdum, Ms. Rocher Tampus, Dr. Jannet Bondad, and Prof. Filomena Lantaca. They were awarded certificates of appreciation for their invaluable contributions as Youth Development Worker and Tutor Trainers, as well as speakers, in support of the program’s success.
 
The culminating event featured testimonials from beneficiaries, dance performances, and the awarding of winners of the Tara, Basa! Video Making Contest. It gathered partners from DSWD, the Department of Education (DepEd), Local Government Units, and academic institutions in celebrating the positive impact of the Tara, Basa! Program across Cebu Province.
 
Through the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program, DSWD and its partner institutions reaffirm their commitment to ensuring accessible, quality, and inclusive education for all Filipino learners.
