Cebu Normal University (CNU) is strengthening research mentorship in Central Visayas as it co-hosts a two-day capability-building program for higher education researchers in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
The Capability Advancement through Scientific Capacity Development (CASCaDe) Program, an initiative of the DOST–National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP), brings together nearly 100 research mentors at MacClintock Hall beginning October 6, 2026.

The first day focused on the value of effective mentorship, impactful research, and communication strategies for fostering productive and professional mentor-mentee relationships.
NRCP President Dr. Michael Angelo Promentilla urged researchers to strengthen their role as trusted policy advisers while mentoring the next generation of researchers.
“True scientific capacity cannot be built in isolation. The real strength of cascading lies in our partnership by bringing together our scientific division,” Promentilla said.
He emphasized the importance of ensuring that research capacity responds to the distinct contexts and needs of different regions.
Promentilla likewise encouraged mentors to “generate new knowledge, shape evidence-based policy, and build a stronger, more confident, connected NRCP.”
As an NRCP partner, CNU continues to strengthen its research and extension initiatives by capacitating educators across its colleges and supporting research that contributes to national and regional development.
CNU President Dr. Laurence Garcia also serves as chairperson of the NRCP Visayas Regional Cluster until 2028, further reinforcing the University’s role in advancing research collaboration in the region.
The second day of the training, scheduled for October 7, will focus on team dynamics, mentorship techniques, and research presentations.
Padayon, CNU!
