LOOK | CHED holds online, onsite evaluation for CNU-Argao’s new education programs
 
In a bid to expand access to quality teacher education programs in southern Cebu, Cebu Normal University – Argao Campus was assessed today by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) following its applications for Permit to Operate and Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) for two new undergraduate programs.
 
The proposed programs are the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECEd) and the Bachelor of Special Needs Education (BSNEd).
 
Once approved, the BECEd and BSNEd programs will officially open at CNU-Argao, bringing more opportunities to students in southern Cebu.
 
The Regional Quality Assessment Team (RQAT) was represented onsite by Dr. Rita Tagalog, former Dean of the School of Education at the University of San Carlos; Dr. Anna Lou Cabuenas, Vice President for Academic Affairs of the University of the Visayas; and Dr. Bernard Pantonilla, CHED-7 Education Supervisor II.
Joining the evaluation online were esteemed members from CHED’s Technical Panel for Early Childhood, Elementary, and Special Needs Education: Dr. Trixie Marie Sison and Dr. Maria Christine Asuncion Dequilla. Also present virtually was CHED-7 Regional Director Dr. Maura Consolacion Cristobal.
CNU officials also took part in the assessment led by President Dr. Daniel Ariaso, Sr.
 
The president, who graced the activity online, expressed his strong commitment to the development of the Argao campus, saying “we really assure that during my administration, this opening of CNU – Argao Campus will be a priority.”
 
Also present online were Dr. Roberto Corcino, CNU Vice President for Academic Affairs; and Dr. Eric Remoroza, Campus Director of CNU-Argao.
 
Representing CNU onsite were Dr. Venus Cortes, Vice President for Special Needs, Early Childhood, Internationalization, and Lifelong Learning; Dr. Remedios Bacus, Director of Curriculum Development and Enhancement; Dr. Ireneo Abad, Dean of CNU-Argao; and Baby Jane Uytico-Tanucan, Program Chair of CNU-Argao.
 
The Municipality of Argao, through Mayor Allan Sesaldo and key administrative officials, also welcomed the CHED delegation.
In his remarks, Mayor Sesaldo highlighted the importance of the activity for the local community, saying “Today’s activity is very significant because this is a stepping stone for our young Argawanons, who now have access to free, quality education here in the Municipality of Argao.”
 
The visit showed the strong support of CHED, CNU, and the Argao local government in expanding access to quality education.
