To ensure that Cebu Normal University (CNU) continues to produce competent, qualified, and motivated educators, the Teacher Education Council (TEC) is conducting a two-day field visit and evaluation at the university starting today.

Aimed at ensuring efficiency and stronger alignment with national education priorities, the visit checks the university’s program offerings, initiatives, and performance in the licensure examinations in previous years, among others.
CNU President Laurence Garcia, in his opening remarks, underscored the importance of evaluation as it continues to move forward in its mission of shaping competent educators.

He also added that the evaluation “comes at a significant moment in the continuing journey” of the university, especially amidst challenges.
“Our recovery journey is not merely about restoring structures or processes,” he said. “It is about reaffirming our responsibility to provide quality education, to innovate in teacher preparation, to uphold academic rigor, and to ensure that every future educator formed within our institution is equipped to respond to the demands of an ever changing world,” he added.
Dr. Garcia also lauded CNU educators for their continued pursuit of producing competent educators, a symbol being consistent and true to the university’s mission.
“CNU has stood as a beacon of teacher education in the country. Every classroom where a CNU graduate teaches becomes an extension of this institution’s mission to uplift lives through education,” he said.
Moreover, Daisy Palompon, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, in her message encouraged all faculty members to welcome the evaluators’ comments as opportunities for improvement.
“While there may be areas where we can still grow, we view these as opportunities to further strengthen our programs and practices in the future,” she said.
She also added that “the process is not merely as a compliance requirement, but as an opportunity for reflection and instititutional enhancement.”
The two-day field visit and evaluation are led by the TEC visit team composed of Juan Primitivo Petrola and Easther Belandres, along with the secretariat team members Kathleen Joyce Ramirez and Eric Brondo.
CNU CTE, which has long been a holder of the “Center of Excellence (COE)” title, undergoes its first visit by TEC as the council transitions into becoming an attached agency of the Department of Education by 2026.
Padayon, CNU!
