LOOK | CNU’s proposed Business Administration program undergoes CHED evaluation
Cebu Normal University (CNU) is now a step closer to offering its first-ever Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) program, a landmark development for the century-old institution as it expands its academic offerings beyond its traditional strengths.
The proposed three-year BSBA program will offer two major programs—Financial Management and Marketing Management—each comprising 122 units. According to its feasibility study, the program aims to address gaps in existing business education by equipping students with “a robust combination of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and industry-relevant competencies.”
University officials expressed optimism that the BSBA program will soon be among CNU’s flagship offerings as it undergoes onsite evaluation by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) today.
The CHED Regional Quality Assessment Team (RQAT) validating the program documents, facilities, and other resources is led by Dr. Florita Acero, dean of the College of Business and Accountancy at Holy Name University. She is joined by former CHED Education Supervisor Eldimario Antiquina Jr. and incoming Program Supervisor Biance Jane Abrenica.
A comprehensive formal report containing the evaluation findings and recommendations is expected to be transmitted to the university in the coming days.
In her speech, Dr. Janet Mananay, Vice President for Special Needs, Early Childhood Education, Internationalization, and Lifelong Learning, called the initiative a “meaningful milestone” for the university.
“This is something that is truly a first for Cebu Normal University,” Dr. Mananay said. “Opening this proposed program reflects our unwavering commitment to expanding access to quality higher education—not just by offering more programs, but by ensuring that every student who enters CNU has the opportunity to become future-ready.”
She emphasized that the program responds to the urgent need to produce graduates prepared for a rapidly evolving global business environment.
“Everything around us is fast-changing and interconnected,” she said, adding “we want to produce graduates who can thrive in this dynamic landscape.”
Quality Assurance Director Dr. Ma. Rosita Hernani, for her part, likewise acknowledged the significance of the undertaking.
“It is a big challenge for the department because this is our first time to venture into commerce,” she said.
If approved, the BSBA program will mark CNU’s official entry into the field of business education, reinforcing the university’s broader mission of innovation, relevance, and academic excellence.
