The Cebu Normal University (CNU) continues to play a pivotal role in the TARA BASA Tutoring Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), now entering its third year of implementation.
For the past two years, CNU has mobilized its students to serve as reading tutors, contributing to the literacy development of children especially the struggling or non-readers in the region.
DSWD gathered all partner higher educational institutions and local government units in today’s coordination and assessment meeting to reflect on the program’s impact and plan for Year 3.
The meeting provided a platform to share insights, celebrate milestones, and strategize on further enhancing the program’s delivery.
Dr. Janet Mananay, CNU vice president for Special Needs, Early Childhood Education, Internationalization and Lifelong Learning (SNECEILL), reaffirmed the university’s unwavering support for the initiative.
“CNU continues to commit to this laudable project that nurtures both our students and the communities we serve,” she said.
Representing CNU at the meeting were Dr. Mananay; Dr. Tizza Navarro, dean of the College of SNECELL; Dr. Fanny Mobida, program Chair; Dr. Marchee Picardal, dean of CNU CTE-Balamban; Dr Chrystler Cabusa, dean of CNU Medellin; and other faculty members from the CNU Balamban and Medellin campuses.
CNU’s continued involvement in the TARA BASA Program demonstrates the university’s advocacy for literacy, youth empowerment, and community engagement—values at the heart of its mission as a teacher education institution.
