DR. REMEDIOS C. BACUS

Dr. Remedios C. Bacus, a distinguished Associate Professor V at Cebu Normal University, has significantly contributed to the realm of education through her various administrative roles and academic achievements.  She has an impressive educational background, having earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Education from the University of San Carlos, a Doctor of Education in English Language Teaching from Cebu Normal University, where she received the Best Dissertation award, a Master of Education in English as a Second Language, and a Bachelor of Secondary Education in major in English. Her expertise in the fields of English, Curriculum and Instruction, and Professional Education has helped shape the educational landscape of the country through numerous workshops, seminars, and research publications.

As the Director of CNU-Curriculum Development and Enhancements, Head of CNU-Alumni Relations and Affairs Office, and a member of the Performance Management Team (PMT) and Faculty and Staff Scholarship and Career Development Committee (FSSCDC), her dedication to education is evident. Furthermore, her involvement in national and regional positions, such as the National Board of Director for the Philippine Association for Graduate Education (PAGE) and Regional President of PAGE-7, as well as her participation in the CHED Regional Quality Assurance as Member, PRC-CPD as Monitor, SEAMEO-INNOTECH Flexible Learning as Tutor, and PNU-LiSQuP as Guest Lecturer, demonstrates her commitment to education.

Dr. Bacus’s research primarily focuses on language teaching and learning, teacher quality, teacher education curriculum, materials development, and flexible learning. She has published numerous articles in Scopus-indexed, Web of Science, and ASEAN Citation-indexed journals significantly contributing to the understanding of these topics. In addition to her research publications, she has co-authored several books for English majors and Senior High School students. These include the Teaching and Assessment of Literature Studies, The Teaching and Assessment of Grammar, Language Learning Materials Development, Building and Enhancing New Literacies across the Curriculum, and The Teacher and the School Curriculum, and Critical Reading and Writing for Senior High School. Moreover, she has also developed copyrighted manuals, including the New Literacies in the 21st Century Curriculum (Worktext), Mentoring to EXCEL Module, Friend Ko, Teacher Ko: A Peer Tutoring Guidebook, and ICT and Internet Literacy Manual.

Dr. Bacus’s involvement in community extension projects further highlights her dedication to education and its impact on society. Notable initiatives include Mentoring Support to ExCEL Project, Friend Ko, Teacher Ko: A Peer Tutoring Program, and ICT and Computer Literacy for Teachers and Barangay Officials.  As a testament to her expertise, Dr. Bacus has served as a resource person in over 40 seminars and trainings in various basic education and higher education institutions throughout the country.

In recognition of her outstanding academic achievements, Dr. Bacus has been the recipient of several grants and scholarships. These include the prestigious CHED Graduate Education Scholarship which she received while pursuing her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of San Carlos, the CHED Dissertation Grant in her Doctor of Education in English Language Teaching, and the Cebu City Government and DepEd Scholarship during her Master in Education major in ESL at the University of the Philippines Cebu. These accolades further underscore her commitment to academic excellence and her contributions to the field of education.
