Cebu Normal University (CNU) has been recognized as the 2026 Regional Teacher Education Center of Excellence (COE), affirming its standing as one of the country’s leading teacher education institutions.
CNU President Dr. Laurence Garcia received the recognition during the National Teachers’ Month Celebration held today in Manila. He was joined by Dr. Michelle Mae Olvido, dean of the College of Teacher Education.
As a Regional Teacher Education COE, CNU serves as a hub for strengthening teacher preparation, enhancing teacher education curricula, and supporting efforts to address emerging challenges in basic education at the regional and national levels.

The recognition places CNU among the 13 institutions recognized as Centers of Excellence nationwide, highlighting its continuing role in advancing the quality of teacher education.
The ceremony, which was organized by Teacher Education Council (TEC), was graced by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Education Secretary Sonny Angara, Commission on Higher Education Chairperson Dr. Shirley Agrupis, and other education officials.

Reflecting on the recognition, Dr. Garcia described it as an affirmation of the university’s enduring mandate as a normal school.
Dr. Garcia said the recognition honors generations of educators, scholars, students, alumni, and partners who have sustained CNU’s legacy of preparing teachers who shape minds, build character, and transform communities.
“CTE (College of Teacher Education) carries not only a designation, but a legacy. It carries the true heart and mandate of Cebu Normal University,” he said.
The recognition underscores CNU’s continuing commitment to excellence in teacher education, professional development, and the preparation of educators who contribute to quality learning outcomes.
