As part of the university’s efforts to strengthen key areas across its programs and initiatives, the Cebu Normal University (CNU) took part in the two-day Higher Education Partnerships Conference (HEPCON) at a hotel in Cebu City on October 1–2, 2026.
Joined by education leaders and higher education stakeholders across the globe, HEPCON 2026 served as a platform for collaboration in areas covering campus internationalization, education, research innovation, student and faculty mobility, and globally relevant academic programs.
Key attendees were from the higher education institutions in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Russia, the UK, Timor-Leste, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
Hosted by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the event was graced by CHED Chair Dr. Shirley Agrupis, CHED IAS Director Dr. Christine Nabor Ferrer, CHED Commissioner Dr. Desiderio Apag III, as well as CHED Region 7 Director Dr. Filomena T. Dayagbil. The occasion was also attended by His Excellency, the Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to the Philippines, H.E. Marciano Octavio Garcia da Silva.
One of the sessions covered relevant directions in higher education internationalization toward concrete, sustainable, and mutually beneficial engagements aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals across Southeast Asia and beyond.

CNU President Dr. Laurence Garcia, a key figure in nursing education, also served as a panel speaker in the session “Beyond the MOU: Turning International Partnerships into Meaningful Action.”
This aligns with the university’s vision of becoming a leading research university in the ASEAN Region for transformative education.
The session brought together Dr. Garcia and Dr. Marivet Caballero, President of Holy Child Central Colleges, Inc., with Dr. Janet Mananay, CNU Director for International Affairs, serving as panel moderator.

Moreover, bringing pride to the university, the international award-winning CNU Chorale lent its voices to the conference preliminaries, while the CNU Kudyapi Dance Troupe showcased Philippine cultural heritage through performances highlighting artistry and talent in a multicultural arena.
The university’s participation in HEPCON 2026 reflects the institution’s continuing commitment to strengthening international partnerships while ensuring that internationalization creates opportunities not only for institutional visibility but also for its students, faculty, partners, and communities.
Padayon, CNU!
