Newly hired faculty members from Cebu Normal University’s (CNU) colleges and external campuses are undergoing a two-day training to strengthen their capacity to develop and implement extension projects that respond to community needs.

Titled “Developing research-based extension project proposals”, the training, which began today at a hotel in Cebu City, aims to equip faculty members with the processes for developing feasible, research-based, and community-responsive extension projects.

The Vice President for Research and Extension Dr. Angeline Pogoy, in her opening remarks, emphasized the importance of identifying community needs in developing and implementing extension initiatives.
“Do not simply ask what projects can we implement. Instead, ask what difference can we make and how can we ensure that this difference lasts,” she said.
Emphasizing the value of community, she also urged faculty members to partner with beneficiaries.
“I encourage you to bring your knowledge, creativity, and passion into this endeavor. Listen to the communities, involve them as partners, and let evidence guide your decisions,” she added.

The first day of the training featured a discussion on strengthening university extension and the role of faculty members in research-based and community-responsive engagement, led by Dr. Johnny Yao Jr., supervising education program specialist of the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office VII.
ESO Director Dr. Rivika Alda also discussed university extension policies, providing faculty members with guidance on the institutional frameworks governing extension initiatives.
This afternoon’s session will also include discussions and workshops on developing needs-based and research-based extension project proposals, enabling participants to translate research and community needs into well-designed initiatives with measurable outcomes.
Through this capacity development initiative, CNU continues to strengthen its extension services by empowering faculty members to develop programs that respond to community needs and contribute to sustainable development.

Padayon, CNU!
