Elderly individuals often present with multiple chronic conditions and subtle or atypical symptoms that may mask serious health issues. In care facilities such as Seven Sisters Elderly Home for the Aged, caregivers play a crucial in the elderly detection of health deterioration among residents. However, many caregivers may not formal medical training or may lack confidence in identifying warning signs that require urgent medical attention or hospital referral.
This extension activity aims to address this gap through a workshop designed to enhance caregivers’ knowledge and skills in recognizing symptoms and manifestations that warrant hospital referral. By improving their ability to identify red flags such as changes in consciousness, breathing difficulties, sudden weakness, chest pain, or unexplained fever, caregivers can facilitate timely medical intervention, prevent complications, and ultimately improve the quality of life of elderly residents.
