Cebu Normal University (CNU) faculty members and student representatives are being equipped to turn international partnerships into concrete opportunities for academic development, institutional growth, and improved collaboration through a writeshop organized by the International Affairs Services Office (IASO) at Samuel MacClintock (SM) Hall today.
Titled “Revitalizing Global Partnerships: Moving from Partnerships on Paper to Partnership in Action,” the writeshop focused on best practices for developing meaningful and sustainable institutional collaborations.

Emphasizing global presence, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Daisy Palompon urged attendees to pursue internationalization initiatives with sustainable outcomes that would benefit stakeholders.
“Aside from research, extension, and instruction, there is also one advocacy that we are also required to address as a university, and that is internationalization. We have to make ourselves visible in the global arena,” she said.
“What is valued most is the relationship that emerges from the agreement and how students benefit from the international learning experiences,” she added.

Moreover, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) International Affairs Service Director-in-Charge Dr. Christine Ferrer, for her part, encouraged attendees to ensure that agreements inked benefit stakeholders.
“Our collaborations should open doors for students to gain global perspectives, for faculty members to share knowledge and expertise, and for institutions to learn from one another. By creating these opportunities, we make internationalization more than an institutional goal,” she said.

Expressing support for the initiative, Dr. Jogi Rivamonte, Education Supervisor II of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region VII, representing Regional Director Dr. Filomena Dayagbil, underscored the need to strengthen collaboration, emphasizing that internationalization requires a collective effort.
“Revitalizing global partnerships cannot rest on the internationalization office alone; it requires the collective ownership and active participation of academic leaders, faculty, researchers, extension practitioners, and institutional partners,” she said.

The day’s sessions covered CHED’s Internationalization Agenda, which sets the national direction for globally engaged Philippine higher education, led by CHED Supervising Education Program Specialist Dr. Jonny Yao Jr.

The second session also explored the possibilities of internationalization and was led by Philippine Normal University Director for Linkages and International Affairs Bryan Dayuta.
The writeshop, spearheaded by IASO Director Dr. Janet Manany is part of the university’s efforts to ensure that extension projects, advocacies, and initiatives are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and strengthen CNU’s internationalization initiatives.
