Dr. Roberto B. Corcino holds the academic position of Professor VI in the Mathematics Department at Cebu Normal University (CNU). He earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Mindanao State University-Main Campus (MSU-Main) in 1992, followed by both his Master’s and Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 1998 and 2000, respectively. From August 2007 to February 2008, he was awarded the esteemed J. William Fulbright Senior Research Fellow at the Mathematics Department of Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia, USA. Prior to his affiliation with CNU in June 2014, he made significant contributions as a faculty member in the Mathematics Department at Mindanao State University-Main Campus from June 1992 to May 2014. Concurrently, during his tenure at MSU-Marawi, he assumed the role of Director at the Mamitua Saber Research Center from 2012 to 2014. He joined CNU in June 2014, assuming the role of core research faculty from 2014 to 2017. During the summer of 2015, he served as a visiting professor at the Mathematics Department of Chungnam National University in Daejon, South Korea, and also held a similar position at the Mathematics Department of West Visayas State University in Iloilo City in 2010.Â
Dr. Corcino’s primary research interests revolve around enumerative and analytic combinatorics, special functions, and mathematical physics. His prolific contributions include the publication of 119 scientific papers in esteemed international refereed journals, with 84 featured in publications indexed by Web of Science (or ISI) and/or Scopus. Notably, his work has garnered 825 citations on Google Scholar, reflecting an H-index of 16 and an i10-index of 23. In addition to his scholarly pursuits, Dr. Corcino has played a pivotal role as a mentor and adviser. Serving as a dissertation adviser, he has guided ten (10) Ph.D. in Mathematics students (nine from MSU-IIT and one from UP Diliman), two (2) Ph.D. in Science Education (Math) students, and one (1) Ph.D. in Research and Evaluation student. Furthermore, he has served as a thesis adviser to eighteen (18) MS in Mathematics students (thirteen from MSU-Marawi, four from CNU, and one from UP Diliman).
His remarkable contributions have earned him prestigious recognition through three national awards: the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) Outstanding Scientific Paper Award in 2004, the NAST Outstanding Young Scientist Award in 2008, and the 2014 NRCP Lifetime Achievement Award. Â
Beyond these accolades, he was acknowledged in the roster of top 150 Filipino Scientists in 2016 by the Cybermetric Lab, sponsored by Project ACUMEN. Further affirming his excellence, he received eight (8) Presidential Citations at CNU from 2018 to 2021. Recently, he was bestowed with the honor of being recognized as the Best Scientist in Cebu Normal University by the AD Scientific Index Ranking for Scientists.
He previously served as the Director of the CNU Research Institute for Computational Mathematics and Physics from 2017 to 2023 and held the position of Dean for the College of Computing, Artificial Intelligence, and Sciences from September 19, 2023 to February 26, 2024. Currently, he holds the role of Campus Director at Cebu Normal University-Balamban Campus and serves as the President of the Mathematical Society of the Philippines – Region VII Chapter.
