Cebu Normal University Represents the Philippines in the 2nd International Global Citizenship Conference

Cebu Normal University (CNU) proudly represented the Philippines alongside University of the Philippines and Philippine Normal University at the 2nd International Global Citizenship Conference, held from August 6-8, 2024, at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in Penang Malaysia. The conference, organized by USM’s School of Educational Studies in collaboration with the GCC-USM and the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU), served as a vital platform for addressing key issues in Global Citizenship Education (GCED) and fostering international collaboration.

Dr. Janet Mananay, Director for Internationalization presented her research paper, highlighting the university’s initiatives and contributions to GCED and the Pre-Service Teachers’ Perspectives, Preferences and Priorities when it comes to GCED. This event provided a valuable opportunity to connect with international potential collaborators from various countries, including Malaysia, Japan, Ghana, Indonesia, China, Korea and Thailand.

The conference’s theme, “Building Inclusive Communities Through Global Citizenship Education,” emphasized the role of GCED in promoting sustainability and harmony globally.

Keynote speakers included Dr. Hyun Mook Lim, Director of APCEIU, who highlighted the gap between policy and practice in GCED, and Professor Dato’ Dr. Sivamurugan Pandian from USM’s School of Social Sciences, who discussed fostering mutual understanding and respect across diverse cultures.

This conference not only allowed for the dissemination of research but also served as a benchmark for evaluating current practices in GCED, promoting the advancement of its impact globally and networking for future international collaborations.
