Darlane Angus Yap

Darlane Angus Yap, is an accomplished music educator and dynamic choir conductor whose artistry, leadership, and dedication to the Cebu Normal University Chorale (CNUC) earned her widespread recognition.

         Her musical journey started at a young age; as a local church choir member who later on served as the church organist in a small town in Mindanao. She finished her Bachelor’s Degree in Music, majoring in Music Education, minor in Piano at Silliman University, Dumaguete City in March 1990, and was a recipient of the University Honors. She also earned her M.A. in Education, Major in Music Education at Cebu Normal University in 2005. She is an active member of Philippine Choral Directors’ Association (PCDA), an international member of American Choral Directors’ Association (ACDA) and honorary board member of the Association of Cultural and Art Educators in the Philippines (ACAEP). 

     Her contributions to the field have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Most Outstanding Adviser Award 2018 during the National Philippines Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) Culture and Arts Festival. She was also honored as one of the Most Inspiring Teachers of the Republic of the Philippines in 2024 by the Saceda Youth Lead School, and with much dedication, she spreads discipline and immeasurable wisdom, understanding her greater purpose for the wondrous talent she is blessed with. On top of all these, the CNU Chorale under her passionate leadership bagged several medals and awards from different prestigious competitions. To name a few, CNUC became the National Champion in PASUC Choral Competition last April 2024, and again the Champion of the Kanta Binisaya Choral Competition held in Tacloban City last June 2024, where she was also awarded as the Best Conductor. In July 2024, the group earned Gold VI and Gold IV medals in the  Folk and Pop & Jazz categories, the Category  Champion in The Pop and Jazz Category as well as the Best in Choreography Award,  the Grand Prix finalist where they received the  1st ever CONDUCTORS’ CHOICE AWARD in the  13th Bali International Competition held in Bali, Indonesia.

      Darlane’s commitment to the  choral arts extends beyond the concert hall.  Under her solid and loving guidance and direction, CNUC continues to grow in excellence evident in their highly acclaimed performances to local, national and international audiences, showcasing  their God-given talents and upholding the university’s name.  

As a strong advocate for music education, she has worked tirelessly not just to develop excellent choral artists but  choir leaders imbued with citizenship skills, which speaks that the CNU Chorale is both a school of music and school of life.
