To cascade climate change adaptation solutions, Cebu Normal University (CNU) President Dr. Daniel Ariaso Sr. along with key officials across State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in the country convened for the forum on the “Localization of the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) of the Philippines 2023–2050,” held at the University of the Philippines Diliman this morning.
Organized by the Climate Change Commission (CCC), the forum was graced by the principal author of the Climate Change Act and the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Higher and Technical Education Senator Loren Legarda.
In her talk titled “From Knowledge to Action: Championing the Role of the State Universities and Colleges for Accelerated Climate Action,” she emphasized the role of SUCs in the localization of the NAP, which could be strengthened through instruction.
“With the NAP, this can be taught in every university, in every college, and it can be translated into local languages and operationalized in a language that will be understood by someone who has not gone to school,” said Legarda.
Senator Legarda also laid down the five-point solution in cascading the program by providing the best solutions to the adverse impacts of climate change “down to the last mile.”
“This must be traditional,” she said, “which could also be indigenous, but should be rooted in local knowledge, data-driven, and science-based,” she added.
Legarda also emphasized that the localization of the NAP is a collective mission of all stakeholders in the country to reverse the devastating trajectory of climate change.
Padayon, CNU!
