Dr Leodinito Y. Cañete, BOR and University Secretary, represented CNU in the 11th ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) Training Course for Accomplishing Program Assessment conducted by the ASEAN University Network at Microtel by Wyndam, MOA from March 7-10, 2016.
The ASEAN University Network (AUN) is an autonomous organization, established under an umbrella of ASEAN and the mandate of Ministers responsible for higher education in ASEAN countries, dealing with the promotion of human resource development in the field of higher education within ASEAN and with its dialogue partners.
The growing trend of higher education system towards internationalization, coupled with the increasing demand from universities in ASEAN region to raise their programs’ recognition and quality improvement, has led AUN to develop a robust QA system in higher education institutions. Since 1998, AUN-QA System has played a key role in the development of a harmonized QA system among the member universities, as well as close cooperation with European partners.
Four CNU faculty and staff received further training from Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and were certified as Master Facilitators of its Learning Express (LEx) Program. LEx is an international social innovation experience designed to challenge students to co-create innovative solutions to challenges faced by local communities.
Dr Leodinito Y. Cañete, Dr Marylou B. Ong, Ms Jezyl C. Cutamora and Mr Renan B. Elcullada learned and demonstrated facilitation skills using the 3E method of Engaging, Experiencing and Enquiring with SP’s Ms Phua Huishan. The training was done in Bulacan State University from February 16-17, 2016. The training program was also participated by LEx facilitators from other state universities.
All certified LEx master facilitators will meet in Thailand in November 2016 to start their application with the International Institute for Facilitation (INIFAC) as international facilitators.
Crossing borders brought changes and challenges to higher education and to many aspects of our lives that removed barriers among cities and countries across the world. Research plays a critical role in facing these challenges as it enhances the overall quality of education. It promotes better understanding of the impact of change and cultural exchange and in facing the emerging needs of the country through innovations and technology. In this connection, Cebu Normal university College of Teacher Education would like to invite you and your students to participate in the 3rd International (4th national) Teacher Education Student Conference (TEStCon). This conference will gather students both in the graduate and undergraduate degree programs and researchers of other regions throughout the world to share their research findings and experiences. This will be held on February 20, 2016 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Marco Polo Plaza Hotel, Lahug, Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines 6000.
Cebu Normal University’s (CNU) history began with the establishment in 1902 of Cebu Normal School as a provincial branch of Philippine Normal School. With the passage of R.A. No. 5128 in 1967, Cebu Normal School was renamed Cebu Normal College. In 1976, it was converted into a state college by virtue of P.D. No. 944. On June 27, 1998, the higher education institution (then called Cebu State College) attained university status and was named Cebu Normal University (CNU) pursuant to R.A. No. 8688. CNU has campuses in Medellin and Balamban.
DESIGN THINKING IN CEBU NORMAL UNIVERSITY
CNU’s involvement in design thinking can be traced to its participation if the FOUNDATION WORKSHOP FOR LEADERS ON DESIGN THINKING held in Singapore Polytechnic on September 18 – 20, 2014. The program infused design thinking mind set to foster local innovators capable of using design thinking methodologies to identify user needs and to generate sustainable technological innovations that impacts the larger ASEAN region. As part of this program CNU sent selected faculty members to the Design Thinking Skill-set Development Workshop held in December 2014 and a Practical Workshop on Application of Design Thinking held last March 2015. The selected faculty members became core trainers and they received additional training in SP to equip them with facilitating skills to implement a Design Thinking program in Cebu. The said workshop and the training held thereafter was sponsored by Temasek Foundation.
